As a comparative religion professor at a public university, I recently used this book in a graduate seminar and the students loved it. I would definitely use it again for graduate classes. I am also planning to use this book in upper-level undergraduate classes. The book uses ethnographic method to advance our understanding of Muslim women in France and Germany, rooting all of its insights and claims in the words of these women, and in their vividly described experiences. The book is one of the very few grounded and trustworthy studies of "orthodox Islam," a religious tradition that is misunderstood in Europe and America. This book is actually the best anti-aging book which I until now have read, and I have during years read many, with the first one being the excellent book written by James F. Fries & Lawrence M. Crapo: “Vitality and Aging”, which I bought and read way back in 1981 just when it was put in print.This book by Lee covers all what have any connections to how long we are going on to live, how old we will be. And here especially the hormones are playing a role, also caused by as when we grow older, then the body’s own amount in the producing the hormones are declining. But this we can repair, solving this problem, by getting hormones from outside the body.And the book is exceptional good with the many sheets which shows for man and women what the actual measures should be for the hormones in being optimal, which in all of the cases is quite different from what we are told from by government. And concerning this information, then this is absolutely the best overview which I until now have met in any book.And among other we for example read that research 1975 – 1993 showed that women who had low levels of Progesterone, and opposite to Estrogen, in their bodies ended up having 540% higher incidence of cancer. And concerning the Estrogen which was made/taken from horses, how bad this is, and hos it instead could be made from nature plants.Of course, we in the book also read about other things than hormones, as how to daily try to live without stress, what to eat, exercise (but not too much hard), and so on. And about vitamins and minerals, of course, and then realize that many vegetarians are missing B vitamins, calcium, and selenium. And we read speculation connected to results showing that all animals are living longer when not allowed to get all of the foot which they would like to get. And we read why people on some place on Earth are living longer, read about the stem cell, and speculating about what the future may bring.All together an excellent book, containing much good information. And again, the best anti-aging book which I owe between my 450 doctor/health books which I owe, and this even though it’s from way back 2005, and most of the other books are much newer.

My interest in information about enhancing and preserving my health and quality of life stems from watching family members and loved ones depart this life in the most heart-breaking ways .... long, degrading, and wasting decline. None of us are getting out of here alive, that doesn't bother me. The manner in which I go matters a lot -- maybe I will suffer on my way out -- but it won't be due to common ignorance. And that is the reason I highly recommend this book. If you are looking to educate yourself in applying a broad arsenal of tools, from simple to more complex medicinal approaches (e.g. BHRT is discussed thoroughly and clearly), to enhance your health then you will likely find this book an excellent investment. I did. The pages of my book are growing ragged due to the number of times I go back to review certain topics. I'm an educated person, but I still appreciated the author keeping hardcore scientific and chemical explanations to a minimum -- although the author presents plenty of evidence in a comprehensible manner. I didn't get 'lost in the weeds' trying to find the core facts and understanding.I've read more than 20 top-rated same-topic books from a variety of authors (medical doctors, nutritionists, research scientists, etc.) and this book is the best of breed, covering all approaches toward enhancing and protecting your health. And it's well written and organized. I also appreciated better understanding the science and research evidence behind many of the recommendations, which as I said, is presented in a comprehensible manner. I don't trust anybody telling me what to do -- I want the evidence presented, pros and cons, and I will make up my own mind. This book does just that -- better than any of the other same-topic books I've read.

Book was in better condition than anticipated. Read the book earlier from the library and wanted my own copy. Full of great information for better health that anyone can do. Have implemented most of the recommendations and feel they are working.

I've read a number of books about the new medicine and the anti-aging approach to health. Our current medical paradigm is about trying to fix what is broken by trying to cure disease. It makes amazingly good sense to me that we should instead be doing the things that will keep us vital and healthy, thus avoiding the major diseases of old age. I have not seen this information presented in a clearer fashion anywhere else. I imagine I now understand more than most doctors on the subject. That is good because ultimately we are responsible for our own health and Dr. Miller has given here the tools to live a vibrant life into old age. As I said, I've read many books on this subject - this one is by far the best.

This is an excellent reference manual, with easily understood graphics - see the example photo I added of "The Aging Process", from page 36 of the book. It is written in an easy to read format, except - I HATE THE UNITS IT USES. For example, the units of measure for hormones are not what one would find from LABCORP or many other popular blood testing facilities. In fact, the units are not even the same as what one would get from the doing a blood test through Life Extension Foundation itself! They offer a very comprehensive male hormone test for $299, and a sample can be viewed on their website "lef.org". The values shown therein are just about the same what one would get from LabCorp testing. But, they are completely different than what is used in this book!I am writing this in hopes that the author is working on an updated version of the book, and would consider providing examples that use LabCorp standard units, or at least add a more than one column of units that would be easily cross referenced.

Great book and I am gratefull that Lisa Loeb shared her music to let others play. As any other music book if you are not an expert in music and just play for leasure time, you will need some help on youtube to see how the rythm goes. I would have liked some other songs to be on that book, but I guess we will have to wait for a new book with the rest of her work.

The arrangements in this book are great, although the guitar chords are, for the most part, incorrect ... Still, Lisa Loeb is the BEST musician in the entire universe, so I have to give it 5 stars! I love you, Lisa!

This book tells the story of scientist Lee Berger, and the important discovery he and his son made in 2004 with the finding of a 1.9m year old skeleton (actually more than one). The book introduces the topic of hominid research, human evolution, and how this type of science works--including dating methods relevant for fossils this age--within the context of telling the story of Lee's life: how a childhood outdoors and childhood interests led to his career and hope that he too would one day make a great discovery, his early career and disappointments, and how the discovery of Karabo finally came about. My eleven year old finished this book in a day and quite enjoyed it.

My grandsons are 8 and 10 and great readers. This books introduces the whole field of modern anthropology. The author is a leader in the field and can explain it to young readers. Challenging science topic.

As a science teacher and a fan of human origins, I was thrilled to have Lee Berger's The Skull in the Rock waiting in its Amazon box for me when I got home from school today. I read its 64 pages in a heartbeat and have to say I am very pleased with the high quality of this work. It is a tremendous challenge to find reading material about human origins that is suitable for middle school readers. This book not only does a fine job of introducing and explaining the main ideas involved in paleoanthropology, it also does a great job of presenting the PROCESS of science in an honest and exciting way for younger readers. I have no doubt that many of the boys and girls who read this will be stimulated to explore a future in science more seriously. I commend Drs Berger and Aronson on producing a rarity in scientific writing, a book that is exciting, inspiring, AND full of serious science. The science teacher in me wishes books such as this were the norm rather than the precious exception. This book is a GEM!

arrived as new and on time. I was very pleased.

I have the third edition of this text and it is minimally helpful so you had better hope your professor supplements the shortcomings. The placement of sections and headings is weird and doesn't seem to flow. When there aren't general intro sections to material the cases don't seem to make up for providing a foundation and are ineffective at illustrating the concepts. The notes following the cases don't seem to naturally flow from the reading. I attempted to supplement with an E&E but it didn't compliment my professor's lectures or the text.

Bought this to give as a gift with the Safari Insect TOOB toys. It was a hit. The Grandmother and parents have been looking for ways to make reading more fun for this 3 year old. They said this was a hit.

We purchased this for our toddler since he loves bugs. It's been a year since we purchased it is still in great shape... even after being slept with a few times. The pictures are great and realistic. And the poem that goes with the pics is great for toddlers. Glad we got it :)

My 5yr old loves reading this. However it’s very flimsy and hard for a kid to hold-especially as big as it is. It might as well be a magazine. It arrived bent and twisted:-/I’m going to have to laminate the cover.

Bought this for my son who is obsessed with bugs and he LOVES it! We read at least a few pages everyday and my son's bug knowledge is growing. He remembers the "fun facts" on each page for the different bugs and it's also helping him learn the alphabet in a fun way. He shares his bug facts with anyone who will listen and when they question him, he pulls out this book and shows them!

This book is wonderful for little kids. It's full of color and simple facts. Great way for young kids to learn about new species of bugs and learn more about ones they may already be familiar with. Each insect has a fact about it on the pages. It's in alphabetical order, so it also helps kids focus on learning the alphabet as well.

I would have loved to give it 5 star the book is so good. Short and sweet information on each bug. My toddler loved it.But it was so dirty. It was torn and bent on the cover page
