Some of the policy questions raised in this book have seen new developments in the short time since it was published. The book's discussion on net neutrality ends before the FCC's 2015 Open Internet Order, for example. Even so, you couldn't ask for a better overview of telecommunications history and policy than this comprehensive yet accessible volume. Though the focus is on regulation and its economic effects, Digital Crossroads examines everything from how digital technology works to landmark federal court cases affecting the Internet. Be prepared to re-read many of these passages, as the twists and turns of evolving policies can often get confusing, especially in the chapter on the Universal Service Fund. This is due more to the nature of the policy than any fault of the authors, who take great care to explain each new word and concept.

This book should be mandatory reading for the Telecommunications Masters program at Syracuse University. I learned more about Telecom from this book than I got from the entire program. If you are new to the world of Telecommunications (or even an old pro) you will absolutely get lot out of this book.

Great background for someone getting into the telecom world or anyone looking for a refresher. I just started working on telecom policy earlier this year, and this book has provided helpful background and context, weaving enough detail to be a serious resource with a conversational style that makes it very readable and accessible to the novice such as myself.

Ok, so overall I really enjoyed this book and thought it fit well with the rest of the series.Reyn:I liked him. I felt like he was a little more readable in this book. However, I would have liked a bit more from him. One of the words Nastasya uses to describe him is taciturn, and that is extremely accurate. I really like him, but he is more of an actions over words kind of person, and I just wish I could have gotten to know him a little more.Nastasya:Let's be real, she is annoying. However, in this case, that does not really bother me because it makes her character believable. There were times when I was wishing she could please just have her big revelation/self-actualization thing already, but then when I thought about it I realized that that would have been really unbelievable. She had seen a lot of crap in her life and it takes time for that to heal.The reason I had to subtract a star (caution, spoilers):I thought this book needed another chapter before the last one. At the end of chapter 32, we have the big battle ending and Nastasya passing out. Chapter 23 takes place two months later. Last we saw, Nastasya and Reyn were still on the outs (once again). He gives her a kiss and tells her not to die as they head into battle, but that hardly counts as making up. Then two months later we see them living together. I wanted to see Nastasya get over herself and figure out how to say "I love you". It seemed like right after they had their fight about it that it was just kind of forgotten as far as the story line went. Sure Reyn was being distant about it,but we never got to see Nastasya come to terms with it. That bothered me. Plus, there were just a few other story line things, such as the Dray situation, that I think could have been hashed out better with another chapter rather than just Nastasya's mental recap at the end.Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and this series is one of my favorites. I just thought it could have been a little more.

Cate Tiernan's "Eternally Yours"--book 3 in the "Immortal Beloved" series--is the sensational conclusion to the quintessential immortal series. Although "Darkness Falls" left readers with the impression that Nastasya and Reyn may have been well on their way to resolving their issues and find their own little piece of happily ever after, "Eternally Yours" pulls readers back into Nastasya and Reyn's chaotic world where happily ever after comes with a lot of hard work and a very hefty price. Tiernan introduces more new characters who are as infuriating as they are fascinating...increasing the suspense as well as the pleasure. "Eternally Yours" is fraught with danger, intrigue, and romance as Nastasya finally learns the ultimate lessons about herself and learns to accept her immortal destiny. Tiernan wraps the series nicely leaving readers sated yet sorry to see the series end.

I really enjoy this series. This is a great storyline continued from the previous book, Immortal Beloved. I will say that there are many editing issues in this book though. Often there are lines that have been strikes through but not removed from the sentence, I am assuming where they decided to take something out that they didn't like. Other than that, I still enjoy this series and can't wait to get started on the next book.

Cate Tiernan, I'm eternally a fan! After reading the Sweep series Sweep: Book of Shadows, The Coven, and Blood Witch: Volume 1Sweep: Dark Magick, Awakening, and Spellbound: Volume 2 I couldn't wait too read another of her series and I chose the Immortal Beloved series. Eternally Yours paints a picture of what it would be like to be immortal,the ups and the downs of living forever. Nastasya is cynical, insecure, formidable, and funny. I couldn't help but like her and pull for her to come out on top and yes even get her man. I hope this isn't the last we hear of Nastasya.

This was a great series on or with her others - Sweep and Balefire. I enjoyed it. I suppose this book is open ended enough that she could write another but it is also great as a trilogy.

I found this book when I did an author search for Cate Tiernan. She wrote the Sweep series that I enjoyed thoroughly so I thought I would give her other writing a chance. I was not disappointed. The story takes you out of the present and creates a world so realistic you lose yourself in it. The characters are well rounded and easy to empathize with. Its all about alternative new age religions, like Tiernan's other series. So if you enjoy reading about that kind of stuff I recommend picking up this series, or at least giving the first book a try. I have the books on my Kindle so when I finished the first book I hopped on my 3G and bought the second book right away, it was that good, and I got that hooked.

I loved this series I wish there was more. I couldn't put the book down it was great how much she went into the past so that u really understood where the characters where coming from. I wanted her to be with Reyn so bad and was so happy to hear her say she loved him. Also it took me forever to figure out who was the traitor I got it right before I read it. I would recommend reading this series in order so u know what's going on with it.Review by Sabrina of fae books

Tresca explores what the title of this book suggests: the evolution of FRPGs. He draws on myriad sources to tell the stories, focussing on pen & paper games, computer games and the Tolkien influence on the fantasy role-playing genre. For the average reader there is something to learn here. I found myself interested, in particular to the details around Multi-user dungeons.For those with more than passing knowledge, there were some notable mistakes and gaps in the research. As this book was released in 2011 I suspect it reflects a commendable effort for the time. However with resources like Jon Peterson's 'Playing at the World' or Sarah Bowman's 'The Functions of Role-playing Games', the content is at times dated or slightly incorrect. For instance, Tresca discusses Gygax & Perren's 'Chainmail' as being released in 1971 (correctly) in one place, while strongly suggesting it was released in 1968 (incorrectly) on page 61. The rudiments of Chainmail may have been released in zines (which is correctly mentioned) but it was not officially published under the Guidon Games imprint until 1971. I had a few other quibbles around the history and mythology of some of Dungeons & Dragons's inspiration, but not worth detailing here. The inaccuracies though subtle, became annoying at times.Tresca does an excellent job at discussing a wide range of topics, and covers them fairly accurately. My knowledge of computer-based role-playing is not extensive so I cannot comment specifically on that, only to say that Tresca seems very knowledgeable. There was a majority of good content, muddied with minor errors, souring me on the book as a whole. It's a good read, don't get me wrong, but it would have benefitted from further proof-reading and editing to be truly impressive. As far as cursory histories are concerned, buy Tresca's book and read it, but for the more insatiable reader, my recommendation would go to the likes of Peterson who is a truly thorough author.

This is a good attempt to summarize the history of RPG. When he writes about tabletop games, the only ones that really interest me, he is knowledgable about most of the field and seems open-minded,not a follower of One True Way.Still, his choices of items to discuss seems constrained by the commercially successful. He seems to miss the fact that games such as RuneQuest, The Arduin Grimoire and others influenced gamers all over the country even though they didn't sell like AD & D.His discussion of online gaming and LARPS was interesting for someone who doesn't do the former and only does the latter on occasion.This is a good effort on a large subject.

Compared to earlier works on the history of role-playing games, Tresca does an admirable job. From Tolkien to tabletop to digital, as well as some other variants, he shows the main paths by which role-playing games have changed and evolved, in style and content. He even pays special attention to the way certain phenomena (particularly larps) have much more complex roots. Tresca has made a serious attempt at being inclusive, even as he concentrates on American fantasy games, and while he does not get all of the facts always right, the effort has to be applauded. Nordic immersion debates and Forgean design theorists, for example, do get discussed, so it is obvious that he has done his homework.There are some more serious problems, though. Most prominently, the author tends to ramble. He spends loads of time explaining unnecessary things like game minutiae, quoting friends and family, and mentioning anecdotal material probably of interest to mostly just himself. Certain definitively significant games are never discussed, and several references he uses are missing from the list at the end. The effect is that the whole work comes through as ambitious and impressive in scope, yet sloppy.Somewhat flawed as it may be, Tresca's book is nevertheless absolutely mandatory reading for all serious role-playing scholars. As far as providing an "official history" of role-playing games goes, I think he has all in all succeeded quite well.

The Evolution of Fantasy Role-Playing Games is a great book to learn how and why certain RPG game mechanics came to exist. I was surprised to learn just how little I knew about the background of role-playing games. While incredibly informative, the book is also very interesting to read. Tresca definitely knows what he is talking about and judging by the sheer volume of references found throughout you can tell he put a lot of work into this book. Highly recommended for any and all fans of the RPG genre.

the book is very descriptive, yet reader friendly. I love that the publishers include the Evolve activities for learning. They are really helpful, as medical terminology can get a bit overwhelming and/or tedious.

This book was required for a vet tech program I was in (since graduated). Though the book was helpful, when the professor went over our answers with us it sometimes seemed to disagree with how the book taught it. Not sure which was actually correct, but it was helpful in learning what some specific veterinary terms meant.

Arrive a day late. Pages and cover were bent and bruised. The book is a great supplement for my vet tech classes and has very helpful and useful exercises. Already love this item despite the shipping mishaps.

Package came early by several days. Also the book is very easy to understand which is good.
