As a lifelong paddler this book is great. Andy documents his adventure down the James with great details - of the river itself and area history as well as his experience in the trip and information about how he planned for and managed the trip. It is great to have such an adventure on such a well known and local river and encourage others to do the same. I read it through in just 2 sittings with it and will refer back to some of his useful links. Highly recommended.
An outstanding book on the how and why, of long distance paddling, and the gear required to do the trip. I learned a lot on what it takes to do this kind of adventure, and rewards to be had on it's accomplishment. The format follows the travelogue mile by mile, interspersed with pages devoted to gear reviews, dangers to be faced, and practical advice. Highly recommended!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, great info on canoe/kayak tripping interspersed with some history of the areas he paddled through. I’ve never paddled in Virginia but I want to now. Great job Andy!
