I spent 8 days in Montenegro, and this guide was extremely useful throughout. You certainly can find all of the information online, but I prefer the organized formatting of the book. I found the restaurant price rankings useful, and they were always accurate. The "Top 16" offered by this book is an excellent starting point for anyone unsure of what to do next. The country is relatively small, so you can usually accomplish a lot by traveling a fairly short distance.I will say, some of the entries are very short and could use more detail. For example, we tried to visit the prehistoric rock paintings at Lipci, but failed. We were able to follow all of the directions, but when we passed the cave as instructed, we still couldn't locate the paintings above us. Outside of the bay and riviera, there aren't that many tourists around Montenegro, so you will have to rely on detailed directions to find sites outside the busy zones. Thanks to this book, you will be able to discover a lot of sites that are off the beaten path. Overall, I would say it is worth bringing with you. The sections about Montenegrin culture and history are necessary to truly appreciate your visit!
Very useful!! Great guide to the best places to visit, what roads to take and what roads to avoid. The best restaurants. This book was my essential reference on a recent trip to Montenegro. Includes guide to Dubrovnik in Croatia.
This is one of the only games in town for a travel guide dedicated to the whole of Montenegro, which makes it valuable for anyone planning a trip to this amazing country. But, it is a disappointing entry from the Lonely Planet group. For many recommended areas, the entries were lacking essential details that would help to plan an enjoyable visit. In many cases it made me wonder if the author had actually visited the locations. We learned early in our trip to research our own directions for off-the-beaten path locations, as the descriptions in the book were often inadequate.
