I found too any errors in this commentary to finish it. Krummacher thought Jesus went to Hell after dying on the cross. Not so. Jesus went to Paradise to preach to souls waiting for the promise made to them throughout the OT.He told the thief that he would be in Paradise with Jesus that very day. Not Hell. Kenneth Copeland teaches these same errors. There are also many errors like this that come from the over 100 false translations in the KJV. Another issues I found was his opinion that Jesus was weak in the garden prior to being arrested. What? Our glorious Lord weak? He sImply wanted those lazy, sleepy disciples to pray for themselves that they would not enter into temptation especially Peter. This wasn't weakness on our Lord's part. It was wise counsel. I could go on and on. I think my point is made. There are better commentaries on the NT out there. Not recommended.
This work probes the soul of the reader, challenging him/her to deeply and thoroughly consider the importance, power, and encouragement of the events up to and surrounding the death of the Good Shepherd. One of a kind! I gave this edition only 4 stars because the conversion of this volume from print to digital produced a number of errors, some of which changed the meaning. For example, at one point this edition says "preventing grace" which is theologically wrong in the context, and probably is a typo from what was likely "prevening grace" or "prevenient grace," where the latter means "anticipating, going before, or preceding." There are a non-trivial number of similar errors, the most of which are obviously wrong.

I got this very quick! I enjoy buying items from Amazon and hate that there has been negative feedback regarding reviews!
I received this book promptly and it was in fair condition. I recommend this for anyone seeking additional insight into the last few days before Our Lord's crucifixion. The insights are deep and I've not seen them elsewhere. It's not light reading, but it's worth the effort!
A classic from an earlier more devout era.
I have used these meditations as a Lenten Discipline. Krummacher has a way with words and a way to put us in the situations that Jesus faced in the days of his passion. I have highlighted a lot of the phrases and analogies to meditate on in the future. And all this from an early 19th century German theologian. I was surprised and blessed!
