Found this book most enlightening. Have just spent two weeks in Patagonia (both the Chilean and Argentian sides). This book opened a lot of possibilities for learning more about the region and contained a wealth of historical and cultural information. Great follow up to a remarkable journey!

I work in tourism travelling in Patagonia. I give this book to my groups as complementary reading since it includes 90% of what we visit.

THAT SAID, IT'S QUITE POSSIBLE THAT THERE IS NOT A GREAT DEAL TO SAY ABOUT CURRENT PATAGONIA, WHICH APPEARS A RATHER DULL, SOMEWHAT LIFELESS PLACE, OWING ITS ALLURE PURELY TO ITS GEOGRAPHY. THE BOOK IS PROBABLY TOO LONG, BUT IT IS WELL WRITTEN. BE WARNED, HOWEVER, THAT THIS E-BOOK IS BADLY EDITED, OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE AWARDED FOUR STARS. EVERY PAGE HAS AT LEAST ONE INSTANCE, SOMETIMES SEVERAL, OF SINGLE WORDS BECOMING TWO WORDS (FOR EXAMPLE, "TENTATIVELY" BECOMES TEN TATIVELY, "PATAGONIA" BECOMES PATAGO NIA, AND SOMETIMES PATAG ONIA); IN THE FIRST HALF OR SO OF THE BOOK "T"S GET LOST, THEREFORE "THE" BECOMES "HE", AND "THUS" BECOMES "HUS", WHICH REALLY DETRACTS FROM THE ENJOYMENT OF THE READING EXPERIENCE.

Over the course of decades I have read 100 s of travel books and cultural histories —many academic—but NEVER IN MY LIFE —have I encountered a more arcane narrative laced with a tedious introductory sentences such as: “FitzRoy was the second son of the second marriage of Lord Charles FitzRoy, son of Augustus Henry, third Duke of Grafton, to Lady Frances Anne Stewart, eldest daughter of the Marquis of Londonderry. He was born in 1805 in Suffolk and schooled at Rottingdean and Harrow.”I have probably read over ten books on Darwin and Fitzroy and never encountered such a laborious and tedious expression of picayune knowledge—factoids enough to produce somnolence—In the early pages of this “Cultural “ history Mr Moss’s snarky attack on Bruce Chatwin should have been a warning but (while I do feel Chatwin’sTreatment of Patagonia is quirky —it is consummately entertaining and as far from the literary dental appointment of Mr Moss’s scholasticism as the Psalms are from Aquinas—Think of Mr Moss’s work as a “Summa Patagonia “Snore!!!SAVE YOUR MONEY —go read the Encyclopedia Británica andMr Moss go take a course in writing!!

I am native of Patagonia and this book gives a pretty good idea of what Patagonia is and its history. Unfortunately a Patagonia hero was ignore. Cap. Luis Piedra Buena. He was the essence of Patagonia in the late 1900.

I would recommend this book particularly for people who have been to Patagonia (yes, probably on a group tour or tours, like me!), and who return home wanting to know more about where they've been and what they've seen. The history, exploration, and indigenous people. This book will probably tell you.But it's not a travel book; it won't tell you where to go, and there are few illustrations.The Kindle version is also not very well rendered. Quite commonly words are (inexplicably) split into two; thus for example 'publish' might appear as 'pub lish'.

My heart was pumping and jumping as I clung to the edge of my seat and was turning the pages as fast as I could to see what would happen next. I fell in love with Special Agent Deke Conrad and his chemistry, repartee and heartwarming romance with Evie Steele. This is book six in the amazing Steele Ridge series and fans of suspenseful romance will love Roaming Wild. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

So action packed! Who knew there was some special agents in the US Fish & Wildlife Service! Makes sense tho.Evie & Deke have wanted each other for years. Just age and the fact that she’s his best friend’s little sister held him back. But he should never underestimate a Steele. Evie was determined to get her man! And be a badass nurse while doing so.Pretty awesome book! And now I hope Adele’s team and his brother Dylan get their own stories.

Loved this book. The story drew you in, the mystery of it, the suspense, and of course, the romance. But since I have read all the Steele Ridge books, I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed every single one. Do not hesitate to get to know the brothers Steele, and the sisters too !!!

For the price paid for (brand new) certain things were just too basic. How necessary is it to explain what an office is? What a computer is? I skipped several chapters that were too basic. It's a good book for reviewing materials, in my case for the CAP exam. Can't say a learned anything new, but for a student starting a degree, it's not bad. Instead of buying several books, this one covered a little bit of everything.For my point of view of delivery, I received ahead of shipping schedule and in excellent condition.

This book has been very useful to me. I am studying for a B.C.E (Board Certified Entomologist) and this book is detailed enough to be helpful, yet not so verbose as to make you want to poke your eyes out and feed them to the cat while reading it.

just a brilliant, easy and wonderfully written book

One of the best, most thorough short books out there on the subject -- easy to tote around, concise, yet readable and even enjoyable. As the previous reviewer mentioned, the stinging arthros are skipped out on, but if that's important to you, your best bet might be downloading the notes pages from the University of California's course pages website (I'd recommend, honestly, snagging all of their pages from their micro and parasitology departments -- these are GOOD notes and videos, priceless and yet price-less), and/or snagging a copy of the appropriate (and it will be longer) chapter on subject same from "Medical and Veterinary Entomology" (which is probably my 5-star GET THIS IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT text/reference and all-around reader on the subject. It's thorough, it's got good pictorial coverage, and it's incredibly readable -- but expensive (worth it, but what good is that if you can't afford it -- and you'll RARELY (read: probably NEVER) find a cheap used copy on here or anywhere).As for this particular (short, handy, soft-cover and light) book: Note well that if you're taking an undergrad course in med (and maybe also vet) parasitology with entomology, this book is the most often used book in my experience. It can be well-supplemented (especially in the graphics section, which is admittedly poor, save for the very helpful line drawings and graphs) by John T. Sullivan's "Electronic Atlas of Parasitology" CD (currently in Version 2.02 (as far as I know), available from the author who is a professor at UC-San Francisco, via ebay, and possibly also via Amazon, for somewhere around $12-15).All in all, I thoroughly recommend this book, ESPECIALLY for anybody reviewing for exams or finals, where it truly shines for its concision and well-thought-out format. If you've got labs (and especially if you have a lot of lab quizzes), this book will only get you so far in preparation for that portion of your education (for eg, while you might find descriptions of differentiating culex from aedes, the pictures themselves are pretty much necessary, take my word) -- do do the extra work and obtain something with good pictorial (color is preferable but not necessary) views... even if it is a book specifically on field entomology & identification, or in combination with that CD (more helpful with the parasitology portion, to be honest).

About the Author

Dr. Thomas Hyslip is currently the Resident Agent in Charge of the Department of Defense, Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS), Cyber Field Office, Eastern Resident Agency. Prior to joining the DCIS in 2007, Dr. Hyslip was a Special Agent with the US Environmental Protection Agency, Criminal Investigation Division, and the US Secret Service. Throughout his 17 years of federal law enforcement, Dr. Hyslip has specialized in cybercrime investigations and computer forensics. Dr. Hyslip has testified as an expert witness on computer forensics and network intrusions at numerous federal, state, and local courts. Dr. Hyslip is also a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and is currently assigned as an Assistant Professor of Preventive Medicine at the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. COL Hyslip has a mix of active duty and reserve assignments spanning over 20 years including assignments with the US African Command, Office of Inspector General, the Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General, and the US Army Reserve Information Operations Command. In 2005 COL Hyslip deployed to Iraq with the 306th Military Police Battalion and earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge. Dr. Hyslip is currently an adjunct Professor at Norwich University Dr. Hyslip received his Doctor of Science degree in Information Assurance from Capitol College in 2014. Dr. Hyslip previously obtained a Master of Science degree from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarkson University.

Love it. We cut the cord and are watching free TV thanks to book. Must have for anyone wanting to review alternatives to expensive cable or satellite TV. I literally read the book, followed and his steps, and I am watching free TV!

Got some good pointers. Especially helpful because we've been tethered to cable for such a long time. Can't get around internet cable yet. We've learned option for watching most of our favorite shows.

I must have been looking for a "Dummies" type of book. I am sure it was very complete and accurate. I just needed step by step instructions for the best option. This book laid out all of the options (confusing,) and had very little step by step. I ended up not cutting the cord.

Book seems complete, but bogs down in specific models,but not explain what part does. Give us an overview of ehrtr we going first, before we get lost in the thicket.
